INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS TAKES ON SUPERSTOCK RACERS

INDEPENDENCE OF THE SEAS TAKES ON SUPERSTOCK RACERS

If you're heading down to the Southampton Grand Prix of the Sea then you should catch a glimpse of Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas.  The giant cruise vessel, that plays host to 4375 guests, will be leaving Southampton at 16.45 on Saturday 11 September and you may see a few of the SuperStock teams in the ‘Bon Voyage' procession.

The Independence of the Seas weighs in at 155,000 tonnes, that's the equivalent of 103,000 SuperStock boats - what a sight that would be. She has a cruising speed of 21.6 knots and it takes a crew of 1360 to keep her functioning - not ideal for racing, but never-the-less very impressive that such a structure can float and keep that many people fed, watered and entertained for the duration of their stay.

The following video, introduced by a guy with cool hair and a right-northern accent, gives you a guided tour of what it's like to be on-board.
