ARAI HEADS UP TOUR X

ARAI HEADS UP TOUR X

Safety gear is essential in any action sport and in powerboating the right helmet is essential to protect your noggin. With so many choices on the market, we're going to be having a look at a few that are available today.

First up, the Arai Tour X, which uses the same complex laminate construction outer shell as the VX-3, offers drivers the choice of detaching both the peak and the visor if so desired. It therefore shows itself to be a versatile helmet that can be used in other off-road disciplines, such as motocross.

Arai says that the peak has been specially designed to channel airflow to inlet ducts to cool the forehead. Likewise the cooling system sounds like it has been developed by a Formula One designer with diffusers mounted on top of the helmet, the ducts set at the base and an exhaust system tailing at the back. Arai used data from other leading models to develop the ventilation system on the Tour X.

On the inside, Arai have fitted an ejector-type set-up for the cheek pads. The Emergency Release System features pulls to extract the pads, making the helmet easier to remove in the event of accident and minimising the likelihood of injury.

The cheek pads and skull cap are fully washable and feature Arai's Dry-Cool material which has been developed to allow the material to dry in record time.

Furthermore, the Tour X passed the penetration test where a 3kg cone weight is dropped from a height of 3 metres on to the top of the helmet.

The Tour X retails at around £355.00 and is available at Arai stockists. The helmet will need to be painted orange at an additional cost.
